Advanced Digital Asset Management System Deployed for
Mission Critical Application
SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA, January 27, 2003
The ADAM Systems Group of Advanced Software Resources, Inc. (ASR) announced today that
Lockheed Martin has purchased its customized digital asset management solution as the main
building block for a sophisticated Digital Video and Audio Archive for mission critical applications.
“We are pleased to have such a prestigious contractor as Lockheed Martin select us
for this mission critical project,” says Bob Miess, Vice President of Engineering of
ASR’s ADAM Systems Group. “This success further validates our ADAM System technology,
which has been in use for over fifteen years, and our commitment to delivering innovative
and robust digital asset management solutions.
Ken Blackmon, program manager for Lockheed Martin notes, “The ADAM System technology
was chosen because of its long history of successes, flexibility, reliability and scalable
architecture. We set very high performance expectations for both system requirements and
the brain trust needed to develop it - the ADAM Systems Group delivered on both counts.”
The ADAM System is able to accept multiple streams of rich media from a variety of data
inputs, including dozens of digital video streams and audio data from the project’s
ATM/SONET Core transport network, archive it, and seamlessly play back any combination of
archived digital video and audio files or portions of a file for post-operational analysis.
The ADAM System will also support both local and remote control over all aspects of the system,
including health and status monitoring of the archive system.
“This project represented a significant challenge and subsequent milestone for the
ADAM Systems Group to meet by seamlessly integrating very complex software based functionality
and sophisticated database design with Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) hardware,” adds
Blackmon. The custom turnkey ADAM System consists of a digital voice/video server with on-line
and near-line storage. The system storage capacity will exceed 125 hours of video and 14,000
hours of audio data. The ADAM digital video/audio archive subsystem will be able to archive
40 simultaneous 10 Mbps MPEG-2 video streams and over 180 digital audio channels simultaneously.
In order to facilitate retrieval of rich media files for playback, the ADAM System assigns
metadata for each captured file. The configuration and control application within the system
allows the operator to manage the metadata for each individual audio and video channel ingested
into the Archive system. “We have given the operator tremendous flexibility in creating
metadata information to help the system retrieve files quickly and efficiently,” remarks
Miess. The metadata fields can include information on data type, video/audio source/destination
channels, timing information, security ID and access indication, notes and descriptions for
each file.
"This project has raised the performance bar and will help change the digital asset
management paradigm for ruggedized environments,” concludes Miess. “Our ADAM
System has successfully integrated asset preservation, scalable storage, networkability and
robust security while ensuring a high ROI and lowering the Total-Cost-of-Ownership.”
